Opening Concert in Leiguarda

Opening Concert in Leiguarda

On 14 August 2021, in the churchyard of Leiguarda, the first concert of the ADAR Festival took place. That evening, accompanied by the gentle Asturian drizzle, more than 120 people gathered to witness the birth of a cultural project that aspired to bring chamber music back to the rural areas of Asturias.

The whole week had been sunny, but that night the drizzle made its presence felt, preventing the full programme from being performed. Far from dampening the evening, however, the light rain gave the concert a magical, unrepeatable atmosphere. The stage, framed by a large yellow structure, had the village of Leiguarda as its backdrop, softened and blurred by the mist.

The programme brought together works by Mendelssohn, Haydn, Falla, and John Harbison, alongside a piece by composer Marcos Fernández — Atlantic — written especially for the occasion. The result was a journey spanning from German Romanticism to contemporary creation, passing through the Spanish folk tradition.

The excitement was palpable. The entire village of Leiguarda came together to set up the stage and prepare the hamlet to welcome the audience. What had begun as an ambitious idea became, that night, a shared reality: something new and meaningful for the rural communities of Asturias was just beginning.
