ADAR Festival

What is ADAR

Association for the Development of the Arts in Rural Areas, ADAR, was created as an artistic initiative that understands the rural environment as a space for contemporary creation. The festival and the residency originate from a non-profit association founded in 2020 in Leiguarda, Asturias.

ADAR Asturias

Origin of the name

The ADAR Festival takes its name from the Association for the Development of the Arts in Rural Areas, the organization that runs the project and shapes its cultural vision.

The association

Founded by Guillermo Laporta and Josefina Urraca during the pandemic, the association was created with the aim of activating Asturian rural heritage through music and the performing arts, supported by new technologies.

Objectives

Revitalize rural areas through cultural projects with international impact
Bring music and the arts to territories at risk of depopulation
Activate unconventional and unused rural spaces
Encourage rural tourism through culture and attract international artists
Connect rural areas of Asturias with audiences around the world
Use the arts to address contemporary social issues

Residency and Festival

ADAR takes place in Asturian hamlets, villages and parishes with fewer than 500 inhabitants. The residency and the festival function as a single creative ecosystem: rehearsal, creation, mediation and performance.
