The Whale (Ballarte) at the Monastery of San Antolín de Bedón

The Whale (Ballarte) at the Monastery of San Antolín de Bedón

After a week as invited resident artists at the 2025 edition of the ADAR Festival, the Ballarte ensemble filled the Monastery of San Antolín de Bedón with magic and early music through The Whale, a multidisciplinary show based on a story written by Giulio Tanasini.

La Balena (The Whale) is a multidisciplinary, multi-layered show that stages a story through music, performance, scenic installation, and audiovisual elements. Inspirada en el perfil de la montaña de Montserrat, la trama de esta leyenda es sencilla: one day, the inhabitants of a valley wake up and discover a whale lying on the summit of a mountain.

This apparition provokes various reactions that chain together leading to a poetic epilogue with an air of magical realism. El objetivo del proyecto es recrear y transmitir la atmósfera onírica del relato, a veces de forma directa y otras de manera más sugerente, rediscovering as a musical ensemble the almost mystical function of the troubadours.

The members of Ballarte were resident artists during the week prior to the show, working in Leiguarda and preparing the staging en el impresionante marco del Monasterio de San Antolín de Bedón, en Llanes.
