In a monumental space like the Parador de Corias -known as the "Asturian Escorial"-, the festival presents a program without piano that explores the expressiveness of the solo and chamber repertoire for strings and flute. The evening begins with the first two movements of Dvořák's "American" quartet, a work of great vitality written during the composer's stay in the USA.
The program continues with four pieces for solo instrument that put the focus on the individual voice: from the polyphonic richness of Bach to the modern introspection of Takemitsu.
Program:
- Antonín Dvořák - Quartet no. 12 "American" (mov. I & II) - flute, violin, viola, cello [1893] 14'
- Zoltán Kodály - Sonata for solo cello - Allegro maestoso - cello [1915] 8'.
- György Kurtág - Hora lungă (from Signs, Games and Messages) - viola solo [1991] 8'.
- Eugène Ysaÿe - Sonata no. 3 "Ballade " - violin solo [1923] 7'.
- Toru Takemitsu - Voice - flute solo [1971] 6'.
