Composer · Contemporary Spanish symphonic and stage composition
Marcos Fernández-Barrero is a Spanish composer, pianist and teacher born in Barcelona in 1984. He trained in piano at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory with Maria Jesús Crespo, took a second degree in composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Rory Boyle, and completed a master's in composition at the Royal College of Music in London with Joe Horowitz. He is a member of the Royal Society of Arts in London. He has received the Francisco Guerrero Prize from the SGAE Foundation and the 9th AEOS-BBVA Foundation Prize, which recognised him as the most frequently programmed living composer in Spanish symphonic halls between 2018 and 2020. His works include a Requiem premiered in 2022 at the National Auditorium of Spain, a Concerto for saxophone quartet and orchestra, America (Homage to Bernstein), three operas —among them The Soldier's Return— and the ballet Smart City. Since 2019 he has been a piano teacher at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory.
