Cello · Cellist and teacher, professor at the RCSMM, with a career in historical repertoire
María Martínez is a cellist trained at Trinity College in London, the Cologne Musikhochschule, Indiana University with János Starker, and Stony Brook University in New York with Colin Carr; she completed her training in baroque cello with Phoebe Carrai, Bruno Cocset and Anner Bylsma. She taught alongside Starker at Indiana and alongside Carr at Stony Brook, and is currently professor of cello at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid and a teacher at the Katarina Gurska Higher Centre. As a soloist she has performed in the United States, Europe and China, and has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma and the Emerson String Quartet, as well as with conductors such as Riccardo Muti and Jaap van Zweden. She was a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra (2012-2013) and performs as a soloist with the Navarre Symphony Orchestra and the Community of Madrid Orchestra. As principal cellist of Tiento Nuovo, directed by Ignacio Prego, she took part in the recording of Avison's Concerti Grossi, distinguished with the Diapasón de Oro.
