The origins of the ADAR Festival
Festival de Música Clásica de Leiguarda
Leiguarda (Lleiguarda in Asturian) is a village of barely 150 inhabitants in the municipality of Belmonte de Miranda. During the pandemic, it gained two new residents: the flautist Guillermo Laporta and the pianist Josefina Urraca.
First they created the Association for the Development of Art in Rural Areas and, immediately afterwards, the Festival de Música Clásica de Leiguarda, which held its first edition in August.
The event, organised together with the New York-based ensemble CreArtBox and with the collaboration and sponsorship of the Ayuntamiento de Belmonte de Miranda and Caja Rural de Asturias, aims to make culture an incentive for revitalising rural areas, using alternative or disused spaces to that end and drawing visitors to less-frequented places.
An initiative that reclaims the social function of art and contributes to the development of rural areas.
