Walks through nature in search of art and classical music
The Adar festival brings artistic creation to rural Asturias in collaboration with the Reina Sofía School of Music.
Internationally renowned artists are taking part these days in a travelling festival of classical music and visual art in different parts of Asturias. This project is directed by the flautist Guillermo Laporta and the pianist Josefina Urraca, international artists who in 2020 took up residence in the village of Leiguarda, in Belmonte de Miranda. The Association for the Development of the Arts in Rural Areas (ADAR) gives its name to this organisation, which is also the name of the festival.
The events blend classical music and new music through performances that serve as an incentive to discover the area. The starting point is a video mapping show that will light up the façade of the Leiguarda church, home to the 150 inhabitants spread across its different neighbourhoods.
The aim of Adar, founded in 2021 in Belmonte de Miranda, is to revitalise rural areas through cultural projects of international impact, to bring music and the arts to these places, to promote the use of unconventional spaces, and to encourage rural tourism through culture, as well as to educate, motivate and inspire future generations, explains Guillermo Laporta.
For this third edition it has, moreover, launched a collaboration with the Reina Sofía School of Music through its “GreenME” programme, which also advises on the selection of the places they have christened ‘Sound walks’, through which the festival seeks to foster dialogue with nature by linking the territory, its history and the manuscripts of the participating musicians. The programme includes performances in places such as the As Quintas Auditorium and the Capilla de los Dolores in Grado. It also includes performances in El Franco and in Colunga, with the support of the Government of the Principality of Asturias and Caja Rural de Asturias.
