The Leiguarda Classical Music festival sells out on the day of its launch
Belmonte’s socio-cultural centre yesterday hosted the launch of the Association for the Development of the Arts in Rural Areas, driven by the musicians Josefina Urraca and Guillermo Laporta.

The reception given to the 1st Leiguarda Classical Music Festival, presented yesterday at Belmonte’s socio-cultural centre, is clear proof of the need to promote cultural initiatives in the villages. It is precisely with this aim that the Association for the Development of the Arts in Rural Areas is born, an initiative of the artists Guillermo Laporta, flautist, and Josefina Urraca, pianist, who in 2020 settled in the Belmonte town, where, with the support of the Town Council and Caja Rural, they have launched this first festival, which features musicians of international standing and delves into classical music and new music.
The programme of the “1st Leiguarda Music Festival” includes members of the CreArtBox ensemble from New York, as well as international soloists, both Spanish and American. Among them, the cellist Beatriz Blanco, the American baritone Nathaniel Sullivan, the pianist Josefina Urraca, the flautist Guillermo Laporta and the composer Marcos Fernández.
The event blends classical music and new music, presenting composers such as J. S. Bach, Joseph Haydn, Félix Mendelssohn, Leonard Bernstein, John Harbison, Marcos Fernández and Manuel de Falla. It will take place on 14 August, on the grounds of the Leiguarda church, and admission is free, with a capacity of one hundred people. Although reservations are already sold out, those interested are advised to request a booking, in case someone drops out, by writing to the office.
The launch was attended by the mayor, Rosa Rodríguez, and by Laude Martínez, presenter of “Romandela” on TPA, in addition to the two musicians behind the association.
