The Adar Festival unfolds another edition of art and music in rural settings from Belmonte
The fourth edition kicks off this week with a tour of monasteries, palaces and hórreos across western and central Asturias, closing on 18 August in Leiguarda.
The Festival ADAR opens its fourth edition from 8 to 18 August across five municipalities: Belmonte de Miranda, Salas, Grado, Pola de Somiedo and Llanes. The event, organised by the Association for the Development of the Arts in Rural Areas, adds Llanes and Pola de Somiedo to the project’s usual venues.
The programme kicks off on Monday the 12th with a concert at the Monastery of San Antolín de Bedón (Llanes) and continues on Tuesday the 13th at the Monastery of San Salvador (Cornellana, Salas) and on Wednesday the 14th at the Market of La Pola de Somiedo. On Friday the 16th the activities move to Leiguarda with two micro-concerts at the association’s base and at the Hórreo Casantos, plus a night-time sound walk accompanied by cider. On Saturday the 17th the programme takes over Grado, with a concert at the Miranda-Valdecarzana Palace, a micro-concert at the Capilla de los Dolores and an installation by Sarah K. Williams at the Fontela Palace. On Sunday the 18th, an open-air closing in the surroundings of the Leiguarda church, with a popular festivity of cider and empanada to bring the edition to a close.
Taking part are the musicians Jone de la Fuente (violin), Almudena Rivas (viola), Natania Hoffman (cello), Mario Molina (piano), Guillermo Laporta (flute) and Josefina Urraca (piano). The repertoire combines works by Mozart, Debussy and Vivaldi with commissions to Andrea Casarrubios and other contemporary composers. Dance comes courtesy of Rebeca Martín Tassis and Izar Gayo, and the cultural mediation is provided by the University of Oviedo researcher Raquel López Fernández.
We aim to revitalise and activate the rural territory itself, involving the local population in it.
